If you absolutely hate the effect or if you do color-sensitive work and donвЂ™t want your window tints changing willy-nilly, the only way to turn off Desktop Tinting is to use Graphite as your accent color (more on those in a bit).

The effect is so gentle that you really need to be looking for it to notice it at all, but Apple says that itвЂ™s meant to keep the bold Dark Mode windows from clashing with your chosen wallpaper. Each window samples an вЂњaverageвЂќ color from whatever piece of your desktop wallpaper itвЂ™s on top of and uses that color to subtly tint every single window in the operating system. One separate but related feature exclusive to Dark Mode is called Desktop Tinting, which goes beyond the translucent sidebars and other UI elements. Colors and shapes are diffused enough that they donвЂ™t make things more difficult to read, but if the effect still annoys you, the Reduce Transparency checkbox in the Accessibility settings is still there for you. The rules of translucency are mostly the same as they are in Light Mode-menus, sidebars, the Spotlight window, and other bits and pieces of the operating system pick up color from the window or desktop image behind them, creating an illusion of depth. While Dark Mode is definitely dark, itвЂ™s almost never actually black, nor is it ever simply an inverted version of Light Mode all the window chrome and sidebars and menus are shades of opaque or translucent gray. Every single first-party app has a new appearance for Dark Mode, from Finder to Safari to Activity Monitor to the obscure little apps in the Utilities folder. Meet Dark ModeД®nabling Dark Mode (in the General pane in System Preferences) leaves no window in the operating system untouched.

It changes all of the stuff that Yosemite's dark mode changed, plus all app windows that support it, plus most of the content inside those windows.Дark Mode is full of subtle details, and there are lots of changes to basic longstanding macOS UI elements that donвЂ™t apply to the (standard, still-default) Light Mode. Mojave gives macOS its first major visual overhaul since Yosemite, and itвЂ™s arguably the biggest and most wide-ranging visual change since the first release of Mac OS X.

Yosemite finally added a partial dark mode, but it only applied to the dock, the menu bar, the Notification Center, the command-tab app switcher, and Spotlight. You could also customize the color used when highlighting text or selecting files. You can choose between a dark or a light mode for system windows ( and more) choose an accent color for window borders decide whether that color should also be applied to the taskbar, Start menu, and application title bars and toggle translucency on and off.

To its credit, Microsoft has done an excellent job of making Windows 10 feel customizable and personal by giving users a handful of toggles and settings to control how basic elements of the operating system look.
